Just click the mouse on the word, and it is pronounced. This allows you, the student, to set the pace, and hear words repeatedly until they are mastered.
The native Hungarian speaker is the late Dr. Louis I. Szathmáry,
widely known as "Chef Louis" of Chicago's "Bakery" restaurant
fame.
Some 250 Hungarian words are included. Entertaining as well as educational, the "Hungarian Pronunciation Tutor" is accented with touches of Magyar classical and gypsy music.
The "Hungarian Pronunciation Tutor" begins with vowels, plain and accented, short and long in lesson one. Short and long consonants follows in lesson two. Lessons three and four presents consonant assimilation and fusion, and the Hungarian alphabet. Lesson five introduces grammatical differences between English and Hungarian. The sixth and final lesson covers "who, what, which?", and more grammar. Vocabulary lists are also included.

Consonant Assimilation in Pronunciation This aspect of Hungarian pronunciation is not so easy -- but give it a shot, you're going to notice your pronunciation skills increasing rapidly.
Here we go:
An unvoiced consonant followed by a voiced consonant is assimilated (which means the sound gets absorbed) by the corresponding voiced consonant in pronunciation. There are exceptions: this is not true of 'h' nor is it true of j or ly, m, n, ny, r and v. Examples are in the box below. Tessék . . . please click the examples to get the sound of them into your ear! It will take time and practice to master this 'nagyon Magyar' pronunciation, but stick with it. Soon you will sound like you were born in Budapest!
